European Penitentiary Training Academies Network
Introduction
As part of the EPTA II project, which is co-funded by the European Union’s Justice Programme, the EPTA network is organizing several cross-border trainings, where selected EPTA members will be hosting training for participants from other EPTA member organizations. As such, the network is very happy to announce the following three trainings that are coming up:
Host academy: Irish Prison Service College, Portlaoise, Ireland
Date: 17-18 May (excluding travel days)

Registration & target group: In total, 20 participants will be admitted for this training. Registration for participants will be on first-come-first-serve basis. However, the host academy reserves the right not to admit participants if not fitting the target group criteria or eligibility criteria of the project*. In addition, in order to stimulate a wide geographical spread of participants, only two participants will be admitted per EPTA member organization. It is important that participants speak good English because this training is very interactive and will require flowing conversation and discussion. Additional registrants will be placed on a waiting list and admitted if spots remain open. After registering, people will be informed about their status (admitted, waiting list, rejected).
This training is of equal importance for both staff working in training academies as well as people working in prisons. However, if coming from prisons, the training would be more beneficial for managers who might be able to influence usage of restorative practices.

Host academy: National Correctional Officers Training School Târgu Ocna, Romania
Date: 23-25 May (excluding travel days)
Description & timetable:
At the end of the training programme, the participants will have the necessary information and skills so as to train students/trainees in managing individual crisis situations in penitentiary environment, especially in situations in which they would become hostages.

In addition, in order to stimulate a wide geographical spread of participants, only two participants will be admitted per EPTA member organization. It is important that participants speak good English because this training is very interactive and will require flowing conversation and discussion. This training is targeted at trainers of penitentiary staff.

Host academy: Training Centre for the Prison Staff, Croatia
Date: 3-5 October (excluding travel days)
Description & timetable:
The goal of the training is to raise awareness among prison officers about the specifics of working with young people in the prison system. After the training, participants will understand better the development process of young people as well as behavioral disorders. The focus will also be on understanding the reasons for establishing a quality relationship as a basis for working with young offenders. Good practices of communication skills and teamwork will be exchanged among the participants. As part of the benefits of the training, a better insight into the importance of mental health and self-awareness is expected.

Registration & target group: In total, 16 participants will be admitted for this training. Registration for participants will be on first-come-first-serve basis. However, the host academy reserves the right not to admit participants if not fitting the target group criteria or eligibility criteria of the project*. In addition, in order to stimulate a wide geographical spread of participants, only two participants will be admitted per EPTA member organization. It is important that participants speak good English because this training is very interactive and will require flowing conversation and discussion. The training is targeted at prison staff who work with young offenders in prison system, including uniformed and civilian staff (psychologists, social workers, special pedagogues, and other treatment staff in direct work).

Participants will be able to participate in the training as part of the EPTA II project, which is co-funded by the European Union’s Justice Programme. This means that only participants from countries participating in the EU’s Justice Programme are eligible to participate in the training. These are the eligible countries:
The United Kingdom is not participating in the Justice Programme.
Travel and subsistence costs for participants will be covered up to a pre-determined max. amount and only if the relevant guidelines and regulations are followed.
For travel, a maximum amount of €400,- per eligible participant will be covered. This budget includes flight/train tickets, travel to and from the airport/train station and travel insurance. Participants are responsible for arranging their own travel from their home country to the training location and costs will be reimbursed after attending the training and having provided the necessary supporting documents. More information about the reimbursement procedure will be shared after registration.
For subsistence, the host academy will arrange accommodation near or at the training location and the costs for accommodation will be covered directly by the project (so no reimbursement necessary). Lunch during training days will be provided by the host academy as well and for additional meals, participants will be informed about the max. eligible amount to be reimbursed after registration.
