How long did it take to develop the training? What kind of skills and/or topics did the training address? How did the trainer interact with or assess the trainee during or after the training? Is there anything else you would like to share about your experience with developing and/or implementing these technologies? The Énap has several learning tools using digital tools for the prison staff training, including:
- a "serious game»: this device consists of a film (animated images) putting the agent in a situation where there is a difficulty which must be resolved. At each stage, the agent must choose the solution he finds most suitable from three possible responses and the situation will therefore change (scenario with several sub-branches) according to his choice which must be as informed as possible.
-Self-training tutorials (educational kits) are also available: stress management, intervention methodology in the penitentiary integration and probation services, Radicalization assessment wings (tutorial under development)
- distance learning modules are also made available to students (disciplinary procedure, first aid training, nominative accounts of inmates)
- of software to train in the use of specific software (in particular for learning baggage control, prison registry, ...).
It depends on the tool, but a project requires a year of work for a three-week hybrid training (face-to-face and non-face-to-face) for example.
What kind of skills and/or topics did the training address? The skills / subjects targeted are: prison law, first aid, management of violent and / or radicalized detainees, security, professional positioning, reasoning skills, adaptability, decision-making, the capacity for discernment ...
How did the trainer interact with or assess the trainee during or after the training? All of these tools are linked to a classic work-study training provided by academy trainers, internal trainers from the prison administration and institutional partners. The trainer will intervene before, during or after the use of digital tools by the students. He will be able to help and support students during feedback after the internship and give them analytical keys (especially when using "serious games"). But he also has the possibility of intervening to reinforce the training provided by the tool by allowing the practical application of the subjects addressed (first aid training, training in the use of the training software for radioscopic image analysis – IRIS – for example).
Is there anything else you would like to share about your experience with developing and/or implementing these technologies?A project is under development in partnership with Canada. It tackles the training of justice professionals using an "AVA" or Autonomous Virtual Agent. It is a virtual agent used to simulate an interview with a inmate or probationer. Initially, it would be aimed at people training to become a penitentiary integration and probation officer and would aim to be able to answer a wide range of questions. The data gathered would not only make it possible to study how to conduct interviews, but also to extract the most widespread practices. In the long term, this tool should make it possible to train someone on good practices for an efficient interview with an inmate or probationer.
The creation of this technology is based first of all on a collection of questions formulated by trainee penitentiary integration and probation officers on given topics / intentions. In a second step, the responses will be entered in order to create a virtual avatar as close as possible to reality in its reactions to the questions asked. This tool is to be developed over 3 years.
