Call for nominations: EPTA Presidency 2023

This year, it has been a great pleasure having the Centre for Legal Studies and Specialized Training from Catalonia holding the presidency of the EPTA Network. We are also really looking forward to the upcoming Annual Conference in Barcelona, taking place 27-29 June 2022. As an annual tradition, we would like to invite EPTA members to take over the Presidency after the next EPTA Annual Conference for the coming year 2023, and continue working on the project ‘Innovating together: Connecting European Penitentiary Training Academies’. As a holder of the presidency, this is a great opportunity to represent the current developments of the organizing academy and hosting representatives of almost all academies in Europe. Especially if your country is holding an EU Presidency, or Presidency of the Council of Ministers of the Council of Europe, this could be an opportunity to highlight certain topics from the agenda of these presidencies.

To elaborate more on the project, the project started in June 2021 and will continue for the next 2 years. During the project, the Netherlands Helsinki Committee (NHC) will be supporting the EPTA Presidency in organizing the EPTA Annual Conference. In practice, this support includes (in case of a physical annual meeting):

• Practical organizational support in the set-up of the conference itself
• NHC will cover the process of financial reimbursement of travel costs of conference participants from EU member states
• The project will cover expenses related to daily allowance, interpretation, printing and meeting rooms (only in case the host is an EU member)

As for the role of the Presidency, the EPTA President has the following duties:

• Act in accordance with EPTA mission and objectives;
• Organize the Annual EPTA conference and draft Annual conference report;
• Cooperate with other relevant network organizations;
• Represent EPTA at related conferences and events;
• Participate in EPTA Steering Committee meetings;
• Coordinate with EuroPris Secretariat the dissemination and publication of information;
• Conclude cooperation agreements with other organizations on behalf of the network after consulting its members for validation;
• Validate membership application forms and sign EPTA membership certificates;

The next president will be voted on during the EPTA Annual Conference in Barcelona on 29 June.
