This is a form of surveillance, which uses an electronic device often placed above the ankle on the individual. This can be used with global positioning system (GPS) and as a way to serve the entire prison sentence, or part of, outside of the prison. This way it´s possible to avoid negative consequences of the prison sentence. It can also give the opportunity to have impact on the individual in a more normal environment. For staff training, this could mean advanced technical training but could also include how to monitor individuals outside of the prison and how to react if someone breaks the rules.
